10-20-Life Crimes Attorney in Florida
Under Florida’s so-called 10-20-Life sentencing statute, people charged with certain violent crimes face expanded sentencing guidelines. In many cases, the statute mandates minimum prison sentences, including:
- Minimum 10 years in prison if the offender possessed a firearm or weapon during the crime
- Minimum 20 years in prison if the firearm was discharged during the crime
- Minimum 25 years to life in prison if someone was injured or killed during the crime
- A minimum three years in prison for a convicted felon in possession of a firearm
- All 10-20-Life additional prison terms will be tacked onto the end of the primary sentence
If you are facing criminal charges in which there is a possibility that a 10-20-Life supplemental sentence may be added, you need serious legal defense representation. The attorneys at Ferrer Shane, PL, understand strategies that prosecutors use when pursuing supplemental sentences. Often, prosecutors add the 10-20-Life charge as a way to protect themselves from diluting their original charges in a plea arrangement. The fact is, though, an inappropriate charge should never be allowed to stand, and we fight aggressively to reduce or eliminate the 10-20-Life connection.
Don’t Wait to See What Will Happen Next
If you are under investigation for a 10-20-Life crime, you can’t afford to wait to see what will happen next. Talk to an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. The earlier we are called in on your case, the more options we have for eliminating the prosecution’s 10-20-Life option.
When you hire a criminal defense attorney, trust and confidence are critical to a successful relationship. Make sure that you work with someone who will fight for you in and out of the courtroom. You should have representation that will explore every option to have your 10-20-Life charges reduced or dismissed.
